Ratings, reviews, opinions as well as their influence

If you're my current reader, excuse me for my absence. I had a lot of preparation for the exams that are now cancelled thanks to Rona & Co. Due to the isolation, I have more time to think, more time to make music and more time to think about and write content for this blog. I hope that somewhat I can entertain or inform you as these are some of the purposes of this blog. Anyways, let's return to the topic of this post. You might find it quite similar to my previous posts such as Anticlimactic atmosphere but it is quite a different subject and objective. Most of the music community is probably aware of the existence of music critics, ratings, reviews and various aggregating websites, the most popular being Rate Your Music . Most of it can be found beneficial for the following reasons: You can more easily discover new music and information about certain genres, artists and albums, you can rate music, get an average score for each album, compare your opinion to others'

Discrimination ~ music-wise

Music is separated into styles and genres which are separated into sub-genres which are separated into micro-genres. People can use them to describe a certain song or album. Genres and the way that people use them are fairly accurate but there is a handful which are not - they are rather controversial - and this leads to a subject of discrimination when talking about genres and certain styles of music. Psychedelic Immediately, I am going to start this point with the fact how much my father hates my musical taste. He specifies almost all of my music as "psychedelia" and treats this noun as an insult to quite a large extent. I honestly find that unnecessary because I never told him that U2 should retire. Psychedelic music and all the sub-genres can be portrayed by some as "music on drugs" or simply "weird" - this adjective is quite popular in music that people don't understand. Certainly, this is a specific style of music which is quite distinctive by

Anticlimactic atmosphere

Recently, I went on a short trip with my parents to a forest. I usually bring CDs for car rides because I loathe radio music. I brought two Coil albums, 'Black Antlers' and 'Scatology.' I felt wrathful and disappointed because I couldn't hear 30% of the instruments (mostly during 'Black Antlers'), I was scared what my parents will think about their music (during both because I am the kind of person that cares about others' opinions especially about music) and various sounds like engine or the surface that we were driving on spoiled the experience. This leads me to the point of this post - how the environment and the way that you listen to music impacts your musical experience. Listening to music in cars can be favorable but to some extent. It really depends what kind of music it is. If it's ambient or close to it, don't even try to think about playing this album. If it's industrial, rock or anything fairly dynamic, it could work. During t

Music as blissful and overwhelming

Lately, I had a conversation with my friend about musical careers. We spoke about them being the key to joy and at the same time painting an overwhelming picture. We imagined how dreadful it is for the more renowned bands or artists to keep sane. It is possible for them to become just like a printer: everything is identical, pleasure isn't detectable and it becomes a chore, not an activity to adore. Such people feel crushed under the force of influencing so many lives in a way that they discern that simply, they are a product to be sold and re-manufactured over and over again. It can also happen to the less-known musicians. This is because they feel that even though the audience might appear as not as broad, it is similarly overwhelming as quantity is not on the first place on the podium and at the same time, they might feel a stronger bond between such community. Such artists might neglect music to some extent to care for their mental well-being. This is highly understandable

Bandcamp recommendations ~ return to 2018

Bandcamp is a great creation that helps in growth of many musicians. They can control how they sell the music, s et their own prices, offer the fans to pay more  and sell merchandise on this website. You can discover various artists from various genres. Today, I provide you three of some of my favorite albums of 2018 that are available on Bandcamp with short stories related to them. Enjoy! 'Dead Magic' is my latest discovery. When I was travelling to visit my sister for recent New Years' Eve, I was listening to this album on the way. I felt completely captivated and amazed with all the off-kilter ideas presented on this 5-track album. It is entertaining for such a short tracklist but long duration. I had to buy it on CD and thus, it is the first album that I have bought in 2020. Anna von Hausswolff is a Swedish musician who started her career in 2010 with her debut album 'Singing from the Grave', followed by 'Ceremony' (2012), 'The Miraculous'

To each their own

(/To each their own/) Everyone has a right to have different preferences or make different choices. "I personally wouldn't have chosen such a flashy car, but to each his own." A: "It's a bit of a guilty pleasure, but I really love watching cheesy horror movies." B: "Hey, to each their own. I'm not going to judge you for that." Source:  The Free Dictionary Certainly, this is one of the rules that we should follow when discussing someone else's taste in music. There are various factors and reasons why we enjoy the music that we enjoy but what are they and are they valid? Popularity Some people ponder that popular music (not the genre) is good music. Personally, this is not valid but also not wrong. There are different reasons why a song/artist became popular: successful promotion strategies, being influential in some way, being featured in a movie/commercial or being shared with the listeners' family/friends (or
